Soundgarden’s long-awaited final album is finally starting to take shape, with guitarist Kim Thayil confirming the band is working to finish eight songs featuring Chris Cornell’s vocals that were written before his death.
According to Music-News.com, he said completing the record is incredibly important; not just for Soundgarden’s legacy, but to properly honor Cornell and the music they created together. There’s still no official release date, but the band says they’re committed to seeing the project through.
As exciting as this news is, it’s also impossible not to feel a little bittersweet. Getting to hear Chris Cornell’s voice on brand-new Soundgarden songs is something fans have dreamed about for years, but it’ll also be a powerful reminder of just how much he’s missed. Still, if this is the band’s final chapter together, it feels like exactly the one it deserves.
