Mother Nature basically said “hold my beer” with this January 2026 winter blow-up that iced out Middle Tennessee.
Much of the Midstate saw ice accumulations that weren’t just annoying but downright destructive, with a lot of spots picking up around a half-inch of ice, and some areas even more, according to WKRN. That’s enough to turn trees and power lines into brittle frozen spaghetti, which they snapped under the weight like it was nothing. Roads turned into slip-and-slide nightmares, and power outages skyrocketed.
In true dramatic fashion, this storm wasn’t just some light dusting, it was part of a larger weather system cutting a swath of snow, sleet, and ice across huge chunks of the US, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of customers and causing travel chaos. Tennessee got hit hard, with widespread outages as crews worked around the clock in treacherous conditions, and well below freezing temps.
Most of Middle TN faced a half inch of ice, but areas like Brentwood and Gallatin saw more, reportedly .6 to .8 inches of ice.
