When 66-year-old Kent Broussard retired from his career as an accountant, he decided to take the extra time he now had to follow his decades-old dream of being part of the Golden Band from Tigerland, by becoming a student at LSU. He ditched the spreadsheets at Sazerac for marching steps and a sousaphone as he put in the time to practice, marching through his neighborhood with the 30-pound instrument and even survived a cracked rib to make it to his audition.
Fast-forward to LSU’s home opener where Broussard made it on the jumbotron in his full purple and gold glory, while absolutely beaming.
In his own words, he leaves us with his bit of inspiration: “People retire. Dreams don’t.”
