I first became familiar with Jonathan Plevyak a few years ago when I became a massive fan of his band Lombardy ( I even introduced them on stage once, which is something I rarely do that’s how much I loved the band). Lombardy always had the vibe of multiple talents all wrapped into one band so I wasn’t surprised at all to see RAD solo projects from the band members soon after popping up.
Plevyak dropped his debut EP Made In The Shade on Friday and already it is clear his mission is to remind us all what rock n roll truly means, making the music YOU want to make. There’s been such a trend for nearly 20 years now of songwriters and artist’s attempting to chase whatever is popular in the moment, a trend I’ve spoken against many times as it completely kills any art form it touches. Seeing an artist like Plevyak blazing his own trail and bringing the music to life he’s feeling in the moment is a breath of fresh air in 2024. The song “American Idols” is a stand out track off the EP with Plevyak taking shots at the industry and the expectation of artist’s to sell out and play by the rules.
