They paid HOW MUCH??!!!
Kurt Cobain’s Fender Stratocaster recently went up for auction. It was signed by all three members of Nirvana, and Kurt’s hand-written message: “Hell-o mark! Love, Your Pal, Kurdt Kobain/ Washed up rockstar.” The guitar was gifted to the late Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan. Might we add… It’s been smashed, but it’s apparently still playable.
Although the highest bidder got to take home a pretty amazing piece of grunge music history, he did have to pay for it… TEN TIMES the amount it was expected to sell for.
It was available for bidding with Julien’s Auction at Hard Rock Café in NYC. The guitar was estimated to sell for $60,000 – $80,000, but it ended up selling for MUCH more than that. The final sale price of the guitar was $595,000!!
