When I moved to Nashville 11 years ago, time really does fly, I remember one of the first bands I saw live were The Features. It became immediately clear that these dudes were Nashville legends and they quickly became one of my favorite bands. When I started hosting my radio show a few years later, they were constantly featured on the show (pun intended) and to me they’ll always be one of the bands that make this city great. On Friday The Features dropped something really rad that has blown my mind all weekend long. The band released an album they recorded in 1999 but was never released and had been shelved for 24 years. The album is called “The Mahaffey Sessions 1999” as it was recorded by another Nashville legend, Self’s Matt Mahaffey. The album sounds like it was recorded 5 minutes ago, that’s how ahead of it’s time it was. I have to say my favorite track on the album, even though it seems impossible to pick one, would have to be track 1 titled “…Serious”, so start there with your journey and just let the record play. To me “The Mahaffey Sessions 1999” is a perfect time capsule of the early days of one of Nashville’s most important bands.
Now do yourself a favor and turn this one up NOW.
