Since the summer of 2000, Pete Yorn has been a favorite of mine. I spent many of my highshoool and college years going to his shows when he’d play Mississippi Nights and The Pageant in my hometown of St.Louis,MO. I recall seeing him around 2009 or so and he covered one of my favorite songs ever, “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order. I recall spending years trying to find a proper live recorded version of his cover online with no avail, so needless to say I was STOKED when I saw Pete dropped Live At The Fonda on Friday and it was included on it. Pete Yorn has always had such a unique sound, the kind of artist that you know it’s him seconds into a song, so much so I even bought my Ayotte drum kit off his former drummer Luke Adams hoping to sound as cool as him when I was 20 years old. With such a unique talent for songwriting and singing, it really blew me away to hear Yorn’s version of this song. It’s one of those songs that’s hard to cover and even harder to make your own, but somehow Yorn managed to not only make it his own, but in a way made the song new again which I never thought possible. Honestly, I feel like I need to send Pete Yorn a list of my top 5 favorite songs ever and ask him to cover each and every one of them.
Now do yourself a favor and go turn this one up NOW.
