Ever since Oasis split 13 years ago, fans of the band and music industry pundits alike have called for a reunion and hoped for some sort of amicable arrangement between the Gallagher brothers to reunite.
For Liam Gallagher, the front-man of the massively popular band, the subject comes with a touch of regret stating that Oasis “should never have split up.”
And while he hopes that the brothers can put their differences aside, unfortunately, they aren’t really on speaking terms at the moment:
“We split up nearly 13 years ago. It’s ridiculous. We can go on about whose fault it is, but he’s his own man. If he really wanted to get in contact, for my mum’s sake, he could do it, but he obviously doesn’t want to. There are only so many olive branches you can offer.”
Liam is of course speaking about his former guitar player and cowriter Noel who for his part is not shying from the subject and in May of 2021 said he would get the band back together to the tune of a cool £100 million ($135 million USD).
Even with a price on the reunion, however, he isn’t holding out hope…
“When you’re in a band, it’s an absolute compromise so no I don’t think I could come up with an idea and then run it by four people and then six weeks later, somebody knocks it back because their cat’s got a cough so I like to march to the beat of my own drum. Oasis is done I’m afraid.”
That is ominous for reunion hopes and whatever the way back is, it doesn’t appear to be happening soon but, that cool £100 million Noel’s asking for? It’s not entirely out of the question as fans of music worldwide are consuming less and less ‘new’ music.
A recent study from MRC Data, a music analysis firm, found that old songs now represent 70 percent of the U.S. music market and with catalogue after catalogue belonging to ‘old’ artists selling for at least 9 figures, not mention the massive guarantees for festival headlining dates they could garner, there may yet be room for Oasis to profit royally from a return.
Either way, for Liam Gallagher, it doesn’t appear eminent:
“If it happens, it happens.”
Don’t Look Back In Anger, fellas…
