Notelle- Sufjan Stevens
To be honest I never got into Sufjan Stevens, BUT, I am 100% digging “Sufjan Stevens” by Notelle. A few days ago this song came across my desk and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it since. To me the song is a great example of controlled chaos with an edge, but lined up with a pop sensibility. Every once in awhile something new comes along and kicks the music industry right in the face and for 2021, Notelle is that artist. I will die on this hill.
Manchester Orchestra- Telepath
It’s no secret if you know me that I’m a massive fan of Manchester Orchestra. My former band once even tracked down the producer of their earlier albums with the hope of harnessing some of their vibe and magic. We had no such luck though because no one can mimic what Manchester Orchestra does. Their latest single, “Telepath” is a true testament to that. A band who has somehow always toed the line of indie and pop right beneath the surface of massive success are finally getting their deserved attention as it seems the world is finally catching up to what they’ve been doing for years, and doing damn well.
Early Humans- Tentacles (Live)
One of my favorite bands to come out of Nashville over the last few years released a live version of my favorite song of theirs and it made my entire weekend. “Tentacles” by Early Humans became a staple on my show last year and I said many times I wanted to hear it live, and now we all finally can. This band sounds even better live than their records and all I can think about is being front row singing along to this song soon. Very soon I hope.
Year Of October- Out To Dry
Year Of October have been a favorite band of mine and Local Buzz regular for many years now. My favorite thing about them has been watching them grow into the band they are today. Their album, “Wastelands”, is the sound of a band coming into their own and never letting anything get in the way of what they want. They’re road dogs and in music for all the right reasons, and that’s exactly why people are picking up what they’re putting down. When you’re honest and true and put out the music you want with no apologies, people cant’s help but notice it, and THAT’S the definition of true rock n roll.
DeeOhGee- I Can’t Take It
DeeOhGee released their second single of 2021, “I Can’t Take It” and already your 2021 is better for it. I’ve missed this band and it makes me happier than I can even explain to see them out playing shows again. DeeOhGee are meant to be seen live and now it’s looking like we all can do just that. They’re one of those bands that to me represent the sound and vibe of the real Nashville scene before it became jumbled with so many newer bands from out of town. These dudes were at it long before anyone else and they are still doing it better than everyone else, and to that I say welcome back boys!
