My Saturday night list of the songs that have been rocking me all weekend long and my appeal for you to turn them up LOUD and rock along with me.
Noise Relay- The Advent
I always get so stoked when I see Noise Relay putting out new stuff. They’ve quickly become one of my favorite band’s over the last year or so. In my mind their music is best described as “controlled chaos”, and their latest single “The Advent” is a true testament to that. It’s a straight up journey this song takes you on, you have no idea what’s around the next corner, and every time you feel like you’re about to spiral out of control, they bring you right back. To say this is a band playing by their own rules would be an understatement because with Noise Relay there are no rules whatsoever. I need to see this band live, ASAP.
Eve 6- Can We Combine
Eve 6 dropped “Can We Combine” Friday and I’ve been listening to it non stop ever since. This song is a sound of a band doing exactly what they want to do and finding the world is following right along with them. From lead singer Max Collin’s new found role as the king of twitter to their new singles dropping left and right, it’s great to see such an honest and real band getting some much deserved attention. Eve 6 have always stuck out in the music world and I love that 2021 is looking like they’re going to continue to do just that.
Hollow Roots- Blame
Once upon a time a random band dropped by the studio knocking on my door to drop a demo off. I remember thinking it was a ballsy move to do that so I gave it a listen and dug them right away. That band was Hollow Roots. I’ve followed them every since and have loved seeing them continue to blow me away with their music. Their latest release, “Blame”, catches me right up with the band and their fearless attitude they’ve never lost. Both on stage and musically, this band takes no prisoners and they are welcome to randomly stop by my studio ANY time. Lifetime invite.
Ryan Adams- Do Not Disturb
Hearing the direction Ryan Adams was going when he released F#@K The Rain in 2018, I was bummed when it seemed that his record, “Big Colors” was shelved and even Rain was taken off streaming services. However on Friday, Adams dropped the news that the record would be out in June and the first single from it entitled, “Do No Disturb” is out now. One of the things I loved about Adam’s over the years, is his ability to make records that sound different than the last but somehow always remaining true to his own sound and it seems “Big Colors” is going to continue with that. 2021 is looking up already.
H.A.R.D.- 1994
H.A.R.D. have kicked the doors off 2021 and have shown no signs of closing it. Their latest single, “1994”, has been stuck in my head all weekend in the best way. The irony of the song title to me is that in 1994, bands would get signed for having a defined unique sound all their own, and labels would attempt to harness what made the band unique. Sadly we don’t see that as much these days in the industry, but H.A.R.D. have their own unique sound and they are the kind of band that made me love the era of the 90s. They give me hope that this next decade can be full of band’s like them, who only care about making music they love. The way rock n roll should always be.
