My weekly call to action for you to turn up the 5 songs that have been rocking my life this week. Turn them up LOUD.
Pepper Said- “Pretty Funny”
I’m such a massive fan of Pepper Said. They always have this way of writing songs that are catchy, lyrically relevant and deep, and always leave you wanting more and feeling happily satisfied at the same time. It’s been a strange year for bands and it’s great to see them not skipping a beat with great releases. Their latest, “Pretty Funny” has me wanting to air drum and dance at the same time. Has the world gone back to normal yet? Because I wanna see this song LIVE.
Icarus Bell- “Aces”
My new favorite 2 piece band has finally arrived. I’ve always loved when a band can make the sound of 5 people with only 2. When I first heard about Icarus Bell I was instantly intrigued. Matt Noveskey has been one of my favorite musicians for a long time and a dear friend (he actually produced CAVO’s 2016 album Bridges). This new project plays by it’s own rules and I LOVE that. It’s everything I want rock n roll to be all the time with a sound all it’s own. There’s an honesty to this band and I can’t wait to see them live n LOUD. If anyone needs me, I’ll be airdrumming to their song “Aces” for the rest of the night.
Silverchair- “Hollywood”
Another Silverchair unreleased track came out Friday from the warner archives and I am HERE for it. Silverchair have always been one of my favorite bands and the amount of unreleased songs the band has is uknown but always rumored to be tons. I love hearing where the band was at this time in their career. They were such a young band and under the microscope at their peak of fame. I hope these releases keep coming next year because the world, and ME, needs way more Silverchair in it.
The By Gods- “Might As Well”
I decided I wanted to dig deeper into some of my favorite records of 2020 and The By God’s “Goldy” was the first one I dove back into. I love this band. I’ve always said they were criminally underrated and I still stand by that statement. They have a sound all their own and as soon as you hear a kick drum, guitar, or vocals you KNOW it’s The By Gods. “Might As Well” is one of my favorite songs of the “Goldy” record and I’m not alone. This band has garnered praises this year all the way from John Davis of Lees of Memory to Tim McCord of Evanescence tweeting about how much they love the band. Can’t wait to see what 2021 brings for the band, I feel like it’s the year of The By Gods and I will die on this hill.
Dreamers- “True Crime”
Back in my touring days, I always knew my band was going to have a good show when we ended up on the same festivals as Dreamers. I NEVER wanted to follow them but I just loved being placed on a bill with them. They’re such a unique band who has always done the kinda honest music they wanna do and no level of fame every changed that. I wish more bands would stick to their guns and make their own way like they do. “True Crime” has been blasting on my playlist all this month and the video is the perfect visual for such a unique and rocking tune.
