My weekly list of the songs that have been rocking me all weekend long with a call to action for you to turn them up and rock along with me, LOUDLY.

Judah & The Lion- “Suite and Jacket”(Live at Ascend Amphitheater)
When I saw Judah & The Lion were putting out a live record I was beyond stoked, and I was even more stoked when I saw some of the album was recorded right here in Nashville, especially my favorite song of theirs “Suite and Jacket”.
It feels like a lifetime ago when the band took the stage at Ascend Amphitheater but it was literally just last year in 2019, crazy to think.
I’ve always loved the lyrics to the song and just the idea of refusing to grow old and dealing with the reality of the ever changing world and the aging process constantly reminding us we are on limited time to figure out this thing called life. Maybe it’s because we haven’t had live shows this size in nearly a year or maybe it’s just hearing this song after the year we’ve all had but “Suite and Jacket” live hits harder than ever before and just hearing this live version makes me wanna face the day with the hopes things will be back to normal soon. And more than anything it makes me miss seeing one of the best live bands around.
Ryan Adams- “I’m Sorry And I Love You”
When it comes to autobiographical songwriters, none have ever seemed to do it better than Ryan Adams.
There’s always a sense with his records over the years that you can tell exactly how he’s feeling and what he’s going through when you listen to it. His latest record, Wednesdays, kicks off with the song “I’m Sorry And I Love You” and it’s the perfect tone to start this album. Adams has always been able to say so much by saying so little and the chorus alone being those two phrases tells us exactly what he’s going through. There’s no denying Adams pioneered the alt country sound so many artists perform today, and judging by the strength of Adam’s newest record, I think it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing other artists jumping back on the Ryan Adams train soon. Welcome back Ryan.
Rock Eupora- “We Need A Merry Christmas”
No stranger to Christmas songs, Rock Eupora has released some stellar Christmas songs in the past, but this one is by far my favorite. One thing I love about this band is the strength of the simple and strong songs they put out. The sound takes me back to Allen Parsons meets when England Dan and John Ford Coley partnered up.
The chorus in this song “We Need A Merry Christmas, It’s Been Such a Hard Year” is such a simple statement but couldn’t be more true for Christmas 2020. If there was ever a Christmas song for this year, it would be this song.
I also love how Rock Eupora are always able to somehow make rather sad lyrics somehow seem musically happy. A talent that only the greats seem to possess so I expect this to be a future Christmas classic, I’m calling it now .
Jax Hollow- “High Class Bitch”
Jax Hollow is a new addition to the Nashville music scene and is quickly claiming stake here. Her new single, “High Class Bitch” is everything rock n roll is supposed to be. Serious shredding, a great backing band, a catchy hook, and all the attitude you can handle. She reminds me of Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown meets The Runaways with the edge of Veruca Salt in their 90s era.
I get so stoked when I see newer artists coming in hot and I have a feeling Jax Hollow, now featuring one of my favorite drummers in town (Angela Lese formerly of The Dead Deads and Taco Mouth), is about to remind us all why we truly call Nashville “Music City”.
Wanderers- “Everything Turns To Nothing”
I mean this 100% honestly. We all know those artists that when we listen to them, we wanna run home and practice to be better. Zach Ryan is that to me. I’m a massive fan of his project, Wanderers. Earlier this year he put out a single a week to pass the time while he couldn’t play shows, and you’d think for most artists there would a few “filler” tunes here and there. That was not the case for Ryan and has yet to be in 2020. His latest release, “Everything Turns To Nothing” showcases Ryan’s strong songwriting sensibilities combined with his unique voice and guitar tones. Sometimes I find myself wondering HOW he makes the sounds he does with his guitars, it’s indie rock, meets shoegaze, meets Wanderers. A unique sound all his own. And since Ryan releases his latest music strictly to Bandcamp, click the picture below to hear “Everything Turns To Nothing”. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.
