My weekly list of 5 tunes that are rocking me through the week. Turn them up and rock along with me, LOUD.
The Dead Deads- In For Blood
Nashville’s own The Dead Deads return with a RAD new tune just in time for the Halloween season. This band has been a staple on my Local Buzz show since before I even took over the show in 2014. They’ve toured the country, had lineup changes, and continued to put out great tunes, all while keeping their very dedicated fanbase satisfied along the way. “In For Blood” shows us this band isn’t slowing down any time soon.
Dinosaur Pile Up- It’s Tricky
One of my favorite bands to come out over the last 5 years, Dinosaur Pile Up, released an amazing cover of the Run DMC classic “It’s Tricky”. I saw this band at Exit In last year and that memory alone makes me long for concerts to come back. I’ve often said this band reminds me of Cage the Elephant in the sense of their raw sound and raw live show. The music industry needs more bands like Dinosaur Pile Up.
Chaz Cardigan- Jesus Christ I’m Lonely Now
Nashville boy gone national, Chaz Cardigan got signed at such a strange time in the music industry. Signing to not one but TWO labels, and getting praise from artists like Ryan Adams, things have been on the up and up. If it weren’t for COVID, Chaz would be blowing up stages all over the country. With the songs he’s putting out, I feel like that’s going to be happening next year. This dude makes me proud to have known him before he was huge. “Jesus Christ I’m Lonely” is my favorite track off his new album, “Holograma” in that it really shows his stripped down strength as a songwriter.
Vera Bloom- Breathe
Vera Bloom released her debut single “Breathe” on Friday and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. She has a sound that mixes everything I love about Poe, Jessica Lea Mayfield, and Best Coast but somehow still makes it her own. It’s always exciting to see new artists coming out with songs that hit me like this one does. Here’s what Vera had to say about the meaning behind “Breathe”.
“Breathe” was written in the aftermath of a panic attack and the experience of existing in that moment. The track provides an honest view of being caged by your thoughts and the need to focus, breathe, and continue forward. “My main goal as a songwriter [is] to translate a specific feeling … I think anyone that’s felt out of control in any capacity can relate to the lyrics” says Vera. “It’s a genuine account of something profound that happened to me.”
Drift Away- Vagabond
Every once in a while, I see a music video pop up on Instagram as a sponsored add that makes me completely stoked. The last time it happened was when I first heard of the band Moaning. Now it’s happened again with one of my new favorite bands, Drift Away. These dudes are kids and they rock harder than a lot of people twice their age. Their sound has a Silverchair “Freak Show era” meets The Pretty Reckless. “Vagabond” is a song wise well beyond the years of the dudes in this band, I can’t wait to see what the next year or two brings for them. Rock N Roll will never die and Drift Away are proof of that.
