Gin Blossoms front man, Robin Wilson, has been spending time at home the last couple of months going through old boxes containing all kinds of rock n roll history. Along with tons of Gin Blossoms early demos, live recordings, pictures, and even a picture of the band backstage at SNL, he found audio and video of two projects he had post Gin Blossoms in the late 90s.
When the Gin Blossoms broke up in 1997, Robin and GB drummer Phil Rhodes, formed Gas Giants. Since the Gin Blossoms broke up with songs still on the charts, A&M Records held onto the member’s record contracts, thus Gas Giants had a deal with A&M themselves. The band was set to hit the ground running, but in 1999 with label mergers being very common with major labels, the band found themselves off A&M and on an indie label. With the music industry changing, the album (From Beyond The Back Burner) came out with little success. “There were only 2 rock bands that had real radio hits that year, Fuel and Filter, it was the worst time in music to put out a rock record like ours” -Wilson said when he called into The Local Buzz in late March.
Gin Blossoms re-united in 2002 and have toured continually ever since. When COVID-19 hit and all GB’s dates were postponed, Wilson spent time at home and came across the Gas Giants record and his animated TV series he’s now pitching called “The Poppin Wheelies”. Wilson announced on a Facebook live stream, he intended to give both records a proper re-release this summer. You can hear Wilson’s full interview on The Local Buzz about the upcoming releases HERE.
