As a disgrace to my generation (I think I have to call myself a millennial), I don’t usually pay attention to anything going on with Snapchat. Personally, I have an account, but I’ve only used it a handful of times, and the constant cutesie updates and filters aren’t really my thing…
That being said, the new feature that Snapchat just introduced in its latest update kind of creeps me out…
Apparently, you can now use a feature called Snap Map to share your exact location on a map with your friends. And, as if that’s not descriptive enough, your location is marked by an avatar that resembles your current speed and position. (If you’re driving, it shows you in a car, etc.)
On one hand, developers have given users the ability to choose who they share their location with, and you can only choose people you’re friends with, so it’s not like a random person can see you on their map.
However, many parents and users are afraid that the wrong people may still slip through the cracks, giving them access to your precise location. This could lead to stalking, bullying, and worse.
Check out the video below for details on just how Snap Map works, it’s definitely an interesting watch.
But honestly, I think I’ll just keep away from it and stay off the grid for a while!
