If you wanna play Metallica, do you gotta have a fiddle in the band?
Maybe not, but Rachel Barton Pine is letting everyone know that rock isn’t a guitars-only club with violin performances like this cover of the solo from “One” by Metallica. She definitely wowed everyone in the Classic FM studio, but this isn’t the first time she has extended her talents on violin to unexpected territory. Pine has covered ACDC, GNR, Black Sabbath, and more. She believes that the composition of a lot of rock classics were directly inspired by classical music, and it’s not as much of a stretch between genres as you may think.
Through performances like these, she hopes to inspire a whole new generation of classical music enthusiasts, and through the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation she helps to fund classical music education in schools.
You can check out the “One” solo at the Classic FM page here, and definitely look up the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation at her page here.
