The rock world is mourning the loss of ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard, who died Monday at the age of 77.
The man’s been behind the kit for the legendary trio for 56 years, providing the unmistakable groove behind hits like “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs,” and “La Grange.” While ZZ Top isn’t exactly a regular on the Buzz playlist, there’s no denying the band’s place in rock history, and losing another member of the classic lineup is a hell of a loss.
The timing makes this one especially bittersweet for Nashville, with ZZ Top currently scheduled to play Ascend Amphitheater on October 8th. The band has announced that it will continue touring in Beard’s honor, following his wishes, with Billy Gibbons and Elwood Francis carrying on the band’s legacy. So while we’re incredibly sad to lose Frank, we’re also looking ahead to October and hoping Nashville gets the chance to give ZZ Top one hell of a welcome.
