Poppy fans got a surprise at Michigan’s Upheaval Festival…but not the kind anyone was expecting.
When it came time for her set, Poppy never took the stage, according to Loudwire. Instead, her band performed an instrumental version of the nearly hour-long set while wearing respirator masks under their usual stage masks. Later, Poppy explained that hazardous air quality caused by wildfire smoke had pushed the Air Quality Index above 350, making it unsafe for her to perform because she was unable to breathe in those conditions.
Talk about “the show must go on.” While fans understandably missed seeing Poppy, it’s hard to argue with putting your health first when the air is literally hazardous. Her band still powered through the set, and honestly, that’s about as committed to the performance as it gets.
