Here comes ANOTHER Cobain item up for auction…
The guitar that Kurt Cobain shredded through in the iconic Smells Like Teen Spirit video (a teal, left-handed 1969 Fender Mustang that basically defined a generation) is about to hit the auction block at Christie’s in New York this March, with million-dollar expectations (think $2.5M to $5M+).
According to Vice, it’s part of the massive Jim Irsay Collection, a once-in-a-lifetime stash of music history assembled by the late Indianapolis Colts owner and packed with instruments from legends like Dylan, Hendrix, and Clapton. Before the hammer falls, the guitar will be publicly displayed, giving ordinary fans a chance to gawp at one of rock’s holy relics that almost certainly won’t come with a free whiff of teenage angst.
