We often hear “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” but we don’t think they ever mean it to apply to marrying folks in your family tree.
Sure, we know it’s a thing that people joke happens in the south but there are some family trees getting a bit of a shakeup in Connecticut this October! As of October 1st, 2025, first-cousins will not be allowed to get married anymore after both sides of the aisle agreed the matrimonial misstep was not worth all the risks of birth defects.
Don’t worry, though, no one gets penalized under the new rule, and marriages done before the date are fine so if you really need to marry your cousin, you have about a week and a half from right now.
