Isis Wharton just wanted a personalized license plate so everyone would know who was behind the wheel of her car, but the DMV in California is now trying to take back the one they initially approved for her.
Wharton purchased her plate that reads “IAMISIS” back in 2022 and has been able to pay the renewal fee each year that she’s updated the registration. For the past three years, she’s been able to have the plate, no problem, but that came to an end recently when she received a letter stating the plate features “a configuration of letters/ and or numbers that are non-compliant with the requirements of Title 13.”
The barbed-wire-framed plate has become something Miss Isis has closely held dear to her identity as it is, in fact, her name but, of course, could also be mis-construed as an affiliation with the terrorist organization.
