During their Long Live The Black Parade Tour stop in San Francisco on Saturday night (July 19), My Chemical Romance paid homage to the Smashing Pumpkins with a cover of “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.” This marks the first time that MCR have covered the Pumpkins’ 1995 hit live, which served as the lead single for the alt-rock legend’s chart-topping, Grammy-nominated album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. During the cover, lead singer Gerard Way put his own twist on Billy Corgan‘s vocals, with the surprise addition to the set captivating the band’s passionate fans. MCR just launched their stadium tour commemorating the 20th anniversary of their landmark album, The Black Parade, which will hit major U.S. cities throughout the summer, with a series of special guest opening acts including Wallows, Garbage, Death Cab for Cutie, Alice Cooper, Pixies, Devo, and Evanescence.
