Woman Returns Library Book 99 Years Late

An 81-year-old New Jersey woman discovered a book her relative checked out from the library 99 years ago. Mary Cooper suspects it was her grandfather who checked out “Home-Made Toys for Girls and Boys” by A. Neely Hall in 1926. He was very handy, and built a boat for his daughter, Cooper’s mother. “He had a little girl and I’m sure making toys was on his mind,” Cooper commented. With inflation, the total late fee would have amounted to $18,000 dollars. Fortunately, Ocean County Library no longer charges fines! “We are fine-free, which makes it even more easy and accessible for people to enjoy the library,” Public Information Officer Sherri Taliercio said. The returned book will be on display in the archives section for visitors to see. (AOL)
