Christmas music can be a very polarizing conversation this time of year. Most people either seem to love or hate it especially when it comes to rock fans. I’m always right in the middle of the fight with the fact I do like Christmas music to a degree. I’m not talking about “Jingle Bells” or anything like that, but I’ve noticed sad Christmas songs always seem to have a special place in my otherwise black heart. A few examples that come to mind would be “Merry Christmas Will Do” by Material Issue, “Alone On Christmas Day” by Phoenix, and “Wish List” by Neon Trees. There’s just something really special to me when a band can take a holiday like Christmas and someone write a serious song that could honestly be played year round.
Ready Revolution joined my list of favorite Christmas songs on Friday when they dropped “Holiday In Hell”, a song that perfectly captures the rather sad vibes Christmas can sometimes bring to people. It’s not always an easy thing to talk about during the holiday season, the idea of being sad versus happy, but this song somehow perfectly sums it up. Lyrically the song deals with how Christmas is rather magical as a child but as a grown up the magic seems to have faded away and that’s something most adults can relate to. Especially adult fans of a well crafted rock n roll song from one of Nashville’s most promising young bands. Now do yourself a favor and go turn this one up NOW.
