THANK GOD!!!!!
If you’ve ever been on I-24 during rush hour, you know it’s some of the worst traffic in the Nashville area. Not only the traffic is slow and annoying, but unfortunately an alarming amount of crashes from speeding and distracted driving occur. A spokesperson from TDOT says there’s a new project underway to make I-24 from Nashville to Murfreesboro safer.
According to FOX 17,
If you’ve driven along I-24 in the past few months, you’ve likely seen a series of beam structures being installed over the road. There’s more than 60 of them between the east and westbound lanes. The screens will display a red “x” over lanes that are closed ahead, a yellow “x” over lanes merging ahead, and green checkmarks over open lanes.
A screen will also alert drivers to a new “variable speed limit,” which lets drivers know how fast cars ahead of them are going. The speed will change based on traffic flow and will be set by radar technology.
The idea is to let drivers know of slowdowns ahead, so they can choose whether to stick to the highway, or to get off and opt for US Highway 41, which runs parallel to I-24.
TDOT hopes this will result in fewer crashes. Read more from FOX 17 HERE.
