Many of us tend to idolize our rock heroes and we forget that they can and will face the same things that we do.
Blink-182 fans are seeing as much now with bassist Mark Hoppus, who was candid in confirming that he has stage 4 lymphoma cancer.
“My classification is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma Stage 4-A, which means, as I understand it, it’s entered four different parts of my body,” Hoppus said. “I don’t know how exactly they determine the four-part of it,” he added, “but it’s entered enough parts of my body that I’m Stage 4, which I think is the highest that it goes. So, I’m Stage 4-A.”- said Hoppus recently. Revealing that it’s the same cancer that his mother had, and that she beat it.
Hoppus admits that the chemo therapy has been tough.
“Let me tell you something that is real and absolutely sucks. A side effect of the chemo therapy is that you get something called ‘chemo brain.’ For me, I forget things that I should have on-call, like peoples names, song titles, anything…kinda sucks.”
Although the process has been difficult Hoppus is still optimistic of the outcome.
“Oh, we’re beating this cancer. It’s just a matter of time.”
A fan account on YouTube, blink-182 Chile, posted a video where Hoppus seams in good spirits in answering a lot of questions about the diagnosis which you can view HERE.
