My weekly call to action for you to turn up the songs that have been rocking me all weekend long. Turn them up LOUD that is.

The Tragically Hip- “Montreal (LIVE)”
Growing up with Much Music, The Tragically Hip had always been one of my favorite bands. Sadly when Gord Downie passed away 3 and a half years ago, I assumed that was it as far as new releases would go for the band. Well the surviving members surprised us all with a new EP of 6 songs that were recorded in 1991 and never made it on any albums. Apparently the recordings were believed to have been destroyed in the 2008 Universal Studios fire, but they were recently discovered safe n sound in Canada. My favorite track off the EP, is the live version of the song “Montreal”. It takes you back to the early 90s in the sense of the band is a young rock band with the whole world ahead of them. Just listening to the song makes me wish I could go back in time and be there to hear it in person. Here’s to hoping more unreleased stuff from The Hip finds its way to the light of day.
Through the Motions- “Medicine”
Sometimes bands send you songs and they quickly become one of your favorite songs. That’s exactly what happened with Through The Motion’s latest release, “Medicine”. The song kicks in with an aggressive drum beat that takes me back to the days of Josh Freese when he was in Abandoned Pools and then the chorus flows in perfectly in a way I can’t stop listening to. Honestly I originally thought the band was called Through The Emotions, because that’s what their music takes me through. I feel like these guys are in for a big year and 2021 is the year of Through The Motions.
The Dead Deads featuring Corey Taylor- “Murder Ballad II”
Every time The Dead Deads drop a new song, it always somehow manages to top everything they’ve done prior, take us on a new yet familiar journey, and leave us wanting more all at the same time. Their latest single, “Murder Ballad II” keeps up the tradition and I’ve had it on repeat all week. Ever so often a band comes along that you can never seem to guess what they’re gonna do next, and few bands do that as well as The Dead Deads. Having Corey Taylor singing along Tish is the perfect fit for this song, and seeing the press and attention it’s getting , I feel like this is only the beginning for what this song is going to do for the band.
Faster Pussycat- “NOLA”
When it comes to bands that came out of the sunset strip scene, I’ve always felt Faster Pussycat was extremely underrated. They were one of the OG bands of that scene and era and they’ve always stayed true to exactly what they want to do. They’re one of my favorite bands to see live to this day so I was stoked when they released “NOLA” on Friday. The band seems more focused than ever on their sound and songwriting and it shows in the music. “NOLA” is a true testament to a band that has blazed it’s own way for decades and has no intention of stopping anytime soon. I can’t wait til the boys are back in Nashville so I can sing along to this one LIVE.
Deadeye Dick- “New Age Girl (2021 version)”
I was extremely surprised when this popped up on my “new release radar” on Friday but I was so thankful it did. I loved “New Age Girl” by Deadeye Dick in 1994 when it came out and I had always wondered why the band never really followed up the song with another hit. Regardless of what happened or didn’t happen, the song holds up and takes me back to a much simpler time. The new version, which I assume was recorded to give the band the rights to the song, sounds as rocking as the original. It’s kind of hard to tell the difference between the two, so to that I say WELL done boys. Welcome back Deadeye Dick, we missed you.
