My weekly list of the songs that have been rocking me all weekend long. Turn them up and rock along with me, LOUD.
-Andy
Voltagehawk- “Straight Razor”
Voltagehawk released their latest single, “Straight Razor” on Friday and I’ve been mentally front row at the Basement East watching them rock it live ever since. This band has always combined so many of my favorite genres of music into their own thing and their latest single is a true testament to a band that’s not skipped a beat this last year. I’m gonna will it into the universe that I’ll be able to see this song live from a front row sometime soon because I need to be singing this along with the boys asap.
Moaning-“What Separates Us”
Last year I remember heading to Grimey’s the day Moaning released their latest album, “Uneasy Laughter”. I remember not being sure what the real danger was or wasn’t but I knew I wanted to give the boys the biggest release day they could have and I wanted to help in any small way I could. I must say it was well worth the risk. This album just turned one year old and I still blast it every single day. “What Separates Us” is a deep cut of the album and I remember seeing them play it live at The High Watt in 2019 and I couldn’t wait to have a recording of it. I hope the band tours on this record this year because I truly feel it deserves it’s day in the sun.
Cassidy Ford- “I Don’t Know You Anymore”
Cassidy Ford has such a way with songs that come off as really beautiful but lyrically can secretly punch you right in the face and I am such a fan of artists that can pull that off. Her latest, “I Don’t Know You Anymore” continues on her path of being one of my favorite artists who has something to say and finds a way to say it. I also love the way you never know where the song is going to go and the second you think you do, boom, it goes another way. Give this one a listen now and you’ll see what I mean and you can thank me later.
Daughtry- “Heavy Is The Crown”
Daughtry dropped “Heavy Is The Crown” Friday and already 2021 is entirely better than 2020. These guys never skipped a beat with writing last year and now we are getting the payoff. One thing I’ve always loved about Daughtry is their dedication to their craft and constant passion for their music. I love hearing the progression the band has been going through and if this single is any sign of what’s to come the rest of this year, I am STOKED. Now we just need shows to come back so we can rock this one live front row with them.
Sydney Sherwood- “Wolves”
If you could find any of the recordings I was a part of at 18, thankfully you cannot, I would be more than embarrassed to say the least. However, Sydney Sherwood, is putting out music that an artist should be proud of at ANY age. Her song “Wolves” is such statement of a young rock n roller on her way and playing by no one else’ rules but her own. She’s from New Jersey but has been splitting time with Nashville and to be honest I hope she sticks around because we would be lucky to have her. Turn up “Wolves” now.
