Candlebox- “My Weakness”

Candlebox- “My Weakness”
To say Candlebox is underrated would be a ridiculous statement, I mean they were huge in the 90s and still tour to sold out crowds to this day. BUT, I’ve always felt their 1998 record, “Happy Pills” was extremely underrated. I remember a Venture store, remember those?, was closing in St.Louis and all their CD’s were super cheap. I was browsing and came across “Happy Pills” and it became one of my favorite records of that year. It commercially didn’t do as well as their other records but I loved what they were doing on that album. The reason I bring up that record is I feel like their latest single they dropped Friday, “My Weakness” picks up where “Happy Pills” left off. Candlebox are a band doing exactly what they want to do it shows with their latest single and if “My Weakness” is any sign of what’s to come from the entire album, called “Wolves” due out later this year, then it very well be my new favorite Candlebox record.
Cavo- “Come Undone”
Once upon a time before the world went completely crazy, myself and the rest of the Cavo boys all sat down and decided to release a ton of tracks we had been keeping in the vault for years. One song fans always mentioned throughout the years was the fact our cover of “Come Undone” never saw a proper release. Growing up I was such a massive fan of the Duran Duran version, I remember buying the cassette tape more than once, so to say I was pumped we were finally releasing it properly would be an understatement. If you’ve seen the original video from 1993, check out for some nods to it in ours.
BadCulture- “Rehab”
Every once in awhile a new band comes around that everything they put out excites me for the future of rock n roll. I have to honestly say, BadCulture are one of those bands. They have their own sound and you can hear the passion and honesty in their music. When I first heard “Rehab” I listened to it 7 times in a row. Sometimes having been a musician myself most of my life and a radio dude for now nearly 7 years, you think you’ve heard it all, Thus I’m thankful for bands like this that prove me wrong. Every time I think I can’t like this band any more than I already do, they somehow raise the bar and I like them even more. Well played, BadCulture, WELL played.
Williams- “Bad Behavior”
Williams came onto my radar a few weeks back when she dropped “Bad Behavior” and my radar has been taking me back to it ever since. She has a sound of Jace Everett meets Chris Isaak meets Poe if that makes sense. It probably doesn’t to you but that’s what I love about it. I say a lot on this blog about my love of raw honesty in music. I don’t believe in following trends or trying to surf a wave that’s already breaking and Williams is a testament to that. Listening to “Bad Behavior” makes me hope shows come back so I can hear this one LIVE.
Oddnote- “Left For Dead”
I was personally bummed when Oddnote left Nashville for Los Angeles last year BUT the music he’s making out there is making me realize the distance may be worth it in the end. I’ve been a fan of Oddnote for years now, I even once drove to a garage in Murfreesboro to drum on one of his tracks and I’d do it again any day, so to say I’m a fan is an understatement. He’s been really cryptic on his socials since his move, and on Friday he finally gave us fans a glimpse at what he’s been up to. “Left For Dead” is Oddnote finding himself in new city and himself overall and to that I say 2021 is the year of Oddnote and I will die on this hill.
