My Saturday night ritual of blasting the 5 songs that have rocked my weekend. Turn them up and rock along with me.

H.A.R.D.- “Bedhead”
I’ve been a fan of H.A.R.D. front man, Thomas Sweat, for years now. He recently told me he didn’t want to let 2021 waste away like 2020 did. Judging by the singles his band has been putting out thus far this year, I’d say he’s absolutely keeping his word. Their latest single, “Bedhead” has been in my head all weekend long in the best way. The band says this song is about what it was like when they recently moved to Nashville and all the wild nights they had, and you can feel that when you listen to it. Of all the music Sweat has put out, H.A.R.D. is the sound of a dude coming into his own and making no apologies for it. The way rock n roll should always be.
Bass Drum of Death/Eve 6- “You Were Right”
Sometimes collaborations come from the strangest places, especially these days. Bass Drum of Death and Eve 6 recently had a feud via Twitter and out of it came not only a new found friendship but one of the best songs 0f 2021 thus far. Both bands have such a unique and signature sound and it’s amazing to hear them together on “You Were Right”. Any time you get two influential artists together who make music on their own terms, you never know what to expect and if you were expecting your new favorite song, then you better be prepared to be singing this one all week long. Imagine if all Twitter feuds ended in amazing song collaborations, what a world it would be.
The Post War- “Stonefish”
I’m always a sucker for bands that hail from Canada. There’s always been amazing bands coming out of our Northern neighbor that put out the most honest and real music in my opinion. The Post War are a true testament to that. Their latest single, “Stonefish” creates a vibe only the song can describe. The kind of song that takes you on a journey and you just wanna hear it again right after you listen to it. This band makes me long for live music so I can take that journey with them live in the front row at one of their shows.
Bush- “American Eyes”
Warner has been killing it with the “unreleased” releases this past year. “American Eyes” was originally on the single “The People That We Love” back in 2001 and I’m such a fan of it. That time period has always been an interesting time for music. 911 happened and changed the music industry in a lot of ways of course, but another thing people don’t think about is it wasn’t the best time in the world to be in Bush. The band had had massive success just years earlier and I remember when “Golden State” came out in 2001 it felt as if a lot of people had moved on from the band. I, however, LOVED that record and the sound they were making back then. I remember telling my friend at that time, “Bush isn’t changing their sound to fit the times, and that kinda honesty is what makes you timeless” and not brag, BUT, that’s exactly what seems to have happened for Gavin and the boys. It’s good to hear this song again, the band put it out at a time where they were figuring out what to do next, and I am forever grateful they chose to make the music they wanted and here they are, 20 years later, bigger than ever.
Manchester Orchestra- “Bed Head”
Random to have two songs titled “Bed Head” on the list tonight but in honor of people always calling me that my entire life and the fact both songs are RAD, I’ll let it slide. I’m such a fan of Manchester Orchestra. My old band once almost worked with a producer who did a few of their records for that reason alone. Every once in a while a band comes along and creates a new sound like no other and that’s exactly what Manchester Orchestra did and continues to do. They should be hailed to the level of Nirvana with all the bands that attempt to copy them, and with this song alone, 2021 is already way better than 2020.
