Marilyn Manson’s airplay plummets, but sales rise amid abuse allegations

Jeff Hahne/Getty ImagesEmbattled rocker Marilyn Manson‘s airplay may be in a free fall, but his streaming and sales are enjoying a robust surge.

Billboard reports that Manson’s new single, “Don’t Chase The Dead,” slipped off the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart this week after actress Evan Rachel Wood and several other women accused the shock rocker of abuse. The single was spun 194 times last week and the newest chart finds the song fell to 102 spins.

Despite radio stations dumping Manson’s music, he’s enjoying a renaissance elsewhere.

Streams of his music jumped by seven percent, with 6 million streams reported for the week ending February 4.  In addition, Manson’s sales climbed by 40 percent since the past week.

As previously reported, fallout started February 1 when Wood, an ex-girlfriend of his, publicly named him as her abuser. Four other women have since come forward with similar stories.

Manson denied the accusations in a statement, calling them “horrible distortions of reality.”

Since the controversy broke, Manson was released from his record label, Loma Vista, and has reportedly been dropped by his manager, Tony Ciulla.  His booking agency, CAA, also severed ties with Manson.
