Trent Reznor reiterates “dislike” of Marilyn Manson: “[I] cut ties with him nearly 25 years ago”

Marilyn Manson & Trent Reznor in 1995; Catherine McGann/Getty ImagesNine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has issued a statement to Pitchfork reiterating his “dislike” of Marilyn Manson following allegations of abuse against the latter by actress Evan Rachel Wood and several other women.

“I have been vocal over the years about my dislike of Manson as a person and cut ties with him nearly 25 years ago,” the statement reads.

Reznor also repeats his repudiation of a passage from Manson’s 1998 autobiography The Long Hard Road Out of Hell, in which Manson writes that he and Reznor purposely got a woman drunk before assaulting her. The excerpt resurfaced on social media in the wake of Wood’s allegations against Manson.

“As I said at the time, the passage from Manson’s memoir is a complete fabrication,” Reznor says. “I was infuriated and offended back when it came out and remain so today.”

Reznor was something of a mentor to Manson in the early ’90s. He released the debut Manson record, 1994’s Portrait of an American Family, on his Nothing Records label, and co-produced its 1996 follow-up, Antichrist Superstar. 

The pair since went through a falling out, with Reznor calling Manson a “dopey clown” in a 2009 Mojo interview. In 2017, Manson said in an interview with Apple Music that he and Reznor had “mended ways.”

Wood posted her allegations against Manson on Monday, writing that he had “horrifically abused [her] for years.” At least four other women then came forward with their own allegations.

Manson has denied those claims as “horrible distortions of reality.”
