My weekly appeal to get you to turn up the songs I’ve been rocking along to all week long. Turn them up, LOUD.

Beyond Here- “New Man”
Beyond Here kicked off their career last year and I’ve been keeping my eyes glued to this band since day 1. Their first two singles have been staples on the station and I was pumped to see they finally released their EP, “New Dangers” on New Year’s Day. Talk about a way to kick off 2021 right? There’s an honesty to this band and their latest single, “New Man” is a testament to that honesty.
The Dirty Nil- “Elvis ’77”
Growing up on MuchMusic it’s no wonder I took such a liking to Canadian rockers, The Dirty Nil. This band has a rock n roll realness that reminds me of that era in the mid 90s when bands could get signed and become huge stars based on a sound all their own. Risks were taken and rewards followed suit. “Elvis ’77” has been on repeat in my car for weeks now. I love the line in the song “And question number one Did you have fun?”. I feel like that’s my motto for 2021.

Chaz Cardigan- “Haircut”
Chaz Cardigan got his dream record deal(s) at such a strange time in music. Many artists would’ve found themselves lost in the shuffle of the world in his situation but Cardigan has only come out of last year even stronger. He’s a true artist in that he always finds a way, and I love that about him. His latest single, “Haircut” is the sound of an artist not letting the chaos of the music industry engulf him and making the music he wants to make, which is a sound we all need to hear and really listen to.
Idlewild- “Dream Variations”
Idlewild are, in my mind, one of the most underrated bands of all time. I’ve been such massive fan of theirs for years now. They’re one of those bands that created a sound all their own and each of their records holds up to the one before it. I recently saw they are releasing a book in February titled “In The Beginning There Were Answers- 25 Years Of Idlewild”, and I was so stoked I pre-ordered it twice, no joke. Not sure how this band can still sound so fresh after being at it for 25 years but somehow they do. “Dream Variations” came out in 2019 but in honor of their book coming out I wanted to give it a celebratory spin tonight. Here’s to 25 more years to one of rock’s most honest bands.
HER- “Rabbit Hole”
HER are one of those bands who always keep you guessing. They have a sound and momentum all their own. It’s addicting to listen to this band. When I saw they were having a song mixed by Tom Lord-Alge, I got a little choked up seeing such a hardworking band finally getting the cred they deserve. Very few bands take you on a musical journey when you turn them on it feels these days, which is why I’m thankful for HER and the journey that comes with their music.
