Credit: Claire Marie Vogel/@oclaireWith tours getting postponed and canceled left and right nowadays amid the COVID-19 pandemic, many music fans are likely holding their breath regarding the much-anticipated My Chemical Romancereunion tour, set to kick off in the U.S. this fall. While he doesn’t have any concrete news about the tour’s status, bassist Mikey Way remains optimistic that it will happen at some point.
“I know fans have been waiting a long time, but it’ll all still be here when this is all over,” Way tells BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat.
MCR first announced their reunion, which had been in the works since at least 2017, on Halloween 2019. Last December in Los Angeles, they played their first show together since breaking up in 2013.
Unfortunately, that’s been the only show the “Helena” rockers have been able to play since reuniting, as the pandemic has already forced them to postpone a number of international dates for this spring and summer.
“It’s easy for me to say we had a plan, but everyone had a plan, you know what I mean?” Way says. “I’m trying to take myself out of a selfish place. Everyone I know was about to do something. Whether you’re in a band, you’re a director, you work a retail job, you’re a gardener — you had a plan, and now it’s been disrupted.”
Way adds that he believes “live music isn’t going anywhere, it’s just on pause for everybody.”
“I feel like people are waiting with bated breath,” he says. “It’s a light at the end of the tunnel and I think there’s something really cool about that.”
My Chem’s U.S. reunion tour is currently still set to kick off September 9 in Detroit.
