Teen sensations The Wonders reunite to benefit MusiCares.

The fictional band The Wonders, from the movie “That Thing You Do!” ,reunited Friday night for a live viewing of the movie with fans via Zoom on YouTube. The band reunited to raise money for MusiCares COVID -19 Relief Fun and to pay tribute to the late Adam Schlesinger who wrote “That Thing You Do!” for the movie. Adam passed away on April 1st from the Coronavirus.

Ethan Embry, who played the bass player in the movie, announced via his twitter page that the reunion would take place if enough fans expressed interest and subscribed to the newly created “The Wonders Official” YouTube channel. Originally aiming for 100 subscribers, the channel quickly gained 18,000 subscribers within a week.

All 4 original band members returned for the reunion as well as Colin Hanks,  Giovanni Ribisi, and Kevin Pollak. They paused the beginning of the film and counted down for viewers all to push play at the same time. As the  movie played, they all gave commentary, showed props they had saved from filming, and shared stories about the film.

The band members held up signs throughout the live stream reminding fans to donate to MusiCares as well as to offer a test pressing  of the upcoming soundtrack coming out on vinyl. The auction is now well over $5,000 on Ebay.

Over 20,000 fans tuned in for the live viewing. The recorded viewing was taken down by YouTube due to copyright regulations, giving fans the hope that maybe the band will reunite once again.
