ABC/Rick RowellBetween the confusion around the Iowa caucuses and Donald Trump‘s Senate impeachment trial ending in acquittal, it’s certainly been a, well, eventful week in politics. Those events drew responses from a couple of big-name rock artists, one more expected than the other.
To start with the expected, Tom Morello shared his reaction to the Iowa drama.
“Since my grim stint as a US Senator’s aid I don’t usually weigh in on electoral stuff,” the Rage Against the Machine guitarist tweeted. “But if what happened in Iowa had happened in Iran or Venezuela there would be calls for a US invasion to topple [a] democratic regime.”
Meanwhile, Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee, who’s never publicly waded into the political waters, shared a long statement regarding her decision to do that now.
“I have never spoken publicly about my political views,” she wrote. “But I can’t stand by and keep my mouth shut while my country’s freedom is taken away.”
Lee didn’t explicitly mention any event or political figure, but she did write, “I do not accept lying, cheating or bullying from my government.”
“Anyone who refuses to hear witnesses speak is clearly not seeking truth,” Lee wrote, seemingly referring to the impeachment trial. “Accepting this abuse says it’s OK for our leaders to lie to us, cheat to us, make decisions without our input, and silence us when we try to speak up.”
“This isn’t about your policies or beliefs,” she added. “It’s about our freedom.”
Lee also shared a link to Vote.org.
