Michael Tullberg/Getty ImagesMetallica‘s frontman James Hetfield made his first public appearance Thursday since returning to rehab last fall.
Hetfield attended the opening of a new exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, which is displaying a number of vehicles from his personal classic car collection.

Last September, Metallica announced that Hetfield had returned to rehab to treat his ongoing battle with substance abuse issues. As a result, the group postponed their tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Hetfield and Metallica plan to return to the live stage in March to play a benefit concert in support of their All Within My Hands charity foundation. The band’s 2020 schedule also includes two unique headlining sets at five different upcoming rock festivals: Epicenter, Welcome to Rockville, Sonic Temple, Louder than Life and Aftershock.
