This isn’t the first time there have been thoughts of closing Lower Broad for pedestrians only, kinda like French Quarter and Beale Street, but why hasn’t it happened yet?
Because of recent horrific incidents involving officers and vehicles on Broadway (ex. HERE) some want to close down Lower Broadway and completely eliminate vehicles because of this.
On the other hand, touristy businesses like the Pedal Tavern (ugh) and all those party tractors/barges/boats/whatever need that space to ride tourists around Lower Broadway.
