A Gen-Zer’s worst nightmare.
This company called Frontier Bundles claim that they will pay one smartphone addict $1,000 for “downgrading” from a smartphone to a flip phone for just one week. Is it too good to be true, or easier said than done?
I admit that the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is reach for the phone and check the messages and then the socials. I’ve made a habit out of it. Plus I always have Facebook/Twitter/Instagram at the ready for the sake of my job. It would be a weird transition to do other (more useful) things with my free time, but for a grand in one week? I think I could deal.
According to their website:
If you’re chosen, you’ll be responsible for using a flip phone in place of your smartphone for seven full days, and we want you to log your experience. We’ll have you track how long it takes you to do basic tasks such as texting and checking email, how many times you wish you could Google something, how many hours you slept, how your productivity changed, and even if you were late to appointments (after all, how does anyone get around without Google Maps?). Was your experience #TheWorstThingEver? Did you find new freedom? Either way, we want to hear about it.
To save your sanity a bit during that seven-day period, they’re even going to throw in a pocket phone handbook to keep track of your contacts, a physical map instead of your GPS, and a CD or two instead of where you stream music.
You’ll also have to hit that 9 button four times in order to get an “s” when you text. Just sayin’.
