Saturday morning, the city revealed that they will be cutting down 21 cherry blossom trees along the River Front area to make room for the festivities during the NFL Draft at the end of the month. Nashvillians were outraged, which caused Mayor Briley to save the trees.
From Fox 17:
People started a petition, which quickly reached more than 40,000 signatures and caused the mayor to change his mind, tweeting they “will now remove them intact and replant them in the city.”
According to the mayor’s office, the trees must be removed to accommodate a 400-foot stage as well as other elements that will serve as the focal point for the event.
