So, is it actually driving under the influence if you’re behind the wheel, but your car is autonomous and driving itself? A man was arrested for DUI after CHP pulled him over after one of their officers noticed the car pass him, at highway speed; he wasn’t speeding, but the trooper noticed the driver looked like he was asleep at the wheel. The trooper was right in his thought. The CHP shut the 101 down while they pulled in front of the car and used it’s ‘safety function’ that will slow the car down if there is an object in the road. The man didn’t wake up until after the car stopped by multiple CHP cars with lights and sirens blaring. And he failed the sobriety test given to him. This isn’t the first time that this has happened. If you’ll remember back at the start of 2018,another driver was arrested on the same charge after passing out in his Tesla while it drove in autopilot mode across the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. Maybe they need more clarification on the use of autonomous cars and the use of under the influence.
