A Flock Of Seagulls- “Say You Love Me”
One of my all time favorite bands, A Flock Of Seagulls, surprised us Friday by dropping a release date and first single off their upcoming record “String Theory” (out August 21st). The album will feature re-recorded versions of the songs from the band’s catalog, accompanied by The Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The most exciting part about this to me is two things. 1 it features the original lineup of the band and 2 the songs are re-imagined in a way that makes them new again. To me A Flock Of Seagulls are time-less and this record proves it. Check out the first single, a newly imagined version of their 1995 hit, “Say You Love Me” below.
Ghost Foot- “Bloodline”
Once upon a time when I was a touring drummer, HA, I used to love when we hit Shreveport, LA. If you’ve ever been there, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I never dreamed one of my favorite bands would come from that city, but HERE we are. Ghost Foot are one of the best bands keeping rock n roll alive in my opinion. Their sound is all their own and everything they put out has a raw and real ness to it you just don’t see a lot of these days. Check out “Bloodline” of their latest record “Down In The Mouth” below and let’s all save rock n roll together shall we?
Maya Manuela- “Another Ex”
Maya Manuela dropped “Another Ex” on Friday and already 2021 is better for it. I’m a big fan of the way Manuela never repeats herself musically, every time she puts a song out I always wonder where she is going to go with it and I’m never disappointed when she takes us wherever she is going. I also love the lyrics to this song. The idea of wanting someone but knowing the consequences aren’t worth the heat of the moment infatuation. If 2021 needed a breakout anthem from one of my favorite Nashville artists, this song is it.
BadCulture- “Wake Up”
Every time BadCulture releases a new song, I think it’s my favorite song of theirs and there is NO way they can top , YET here we are again. This band is one of the best bands to come outta Nashville in a long time. They’re one of those bands who don’t have to try, they’re just automatically the coolest band in the room and we’re all better off for hearing them. Their latest single, “Wake Up” is a true testament to a band playing by their own rules and having fun along the way, which in the end is the point of music in general. 2021 is the year of BadCulture and I will die on this hill.
Bones Owens- “Rambler”
Bones Owens released a bonus track from self titled album on Friday and it’s been in my head nonstop since in the best way possible. Owens has always had a way of writing an honest song with pop sensibility and a rock n roll edge, all the while making it seem so effortless. Ever so often an artist comes along where just hearing one note of their song you KNOW it’s them, and Owens is that artist. I love the video for the song as well and it’s good to see my old friend Julian Dorio rocking along side Owens. Now THAT is my kinda 2 piece rock n roll band right there.
