Marka/Universal Images Group via Getty ImagesMarilyn Manson‘s role in the ongoing season of the Starz series American Gods has been cut following allegations of abuse against the rocker made by Evan Rachel Wood and at least four other women.
“Starz stands unequivocally with all victims and survivors of abuse,” reads a statement from the network. “Due to the allegations made against Marilyn Manson, we have decided to remove his performance from the remaining episode he is in, scheduled to air later this season.”
Manson has appeared in two American Gods episodes so far this season in his role as a “Viking death metal frontman.” The most recent of those episodes just aired this past Sunday, a day before Wood publicly named Manson as her abuser.
“[Manson] started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years,” Wood wrote in part in her post Monday.
Manson denied the allegations as “horrible distortions of reality” in his own post Monday night. “My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners,” he wrote. “Regardless of how — and why — others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”
Along with being cut from American Gods, Manson has also been dropped by his record label, Loma Vista Recordings. Additionally, an episode of the series Creepshow featuring Manson has been pulled from broadcast.
