Armen KeleshianSystem of a Down will do a charity livestream even this Saturday to raise money for wounded Armenian soldiers.
The livestream will take place at 12 p.m. ET on SOAD’s YouTube channel. All proceeds will go to provide prosthetic limbs, laser therapy and other treatments for soldiers in the Defense Army of Artsakh and Armenia, who were injured in what the band calls “the most egregious violence to affect the area since 1994.”
In a statement on Facebook, the band says, “Even after the ceasefire signed on November 10, 2020, those heroes wounded in the recent conflict remain in dire need of prosthetics, advanced treatment, and medical care.”
Right after the two-hour event concludes, the video for the group’s song “Genocidal Humanoidz” will debut — that’s at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
SOAD also promises that “special guests” will join them for the livestream and you’ll be able to donate to the cause throughout. Subscribe to the band’s YouTube channel for more details.
System of a Down describes the injuries of the soldiers as “war crimes” caused by “Azerbaijan abetted by Turkey and their Syrian mercenaries.” The band has been vocal in denouncing Turkey due to the assistance it lent Azerbaijan in its war with Armenia last fall.
The conflict led to System sharing two new songs — “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” — marking the first time the band released music in 15 years.
