Sony Music Entertainment Pearl Jam‘s Ten and Beastie Boys‘ Licensed to Ill are among the 2021 inductees into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Each year, the Recording Academy selects a group of songs and albums that “exhibit qualitative or historical significance.” A recording must be at least 25 years old to qualify.
1991’s Ten and 1986’s Licensed to Ill are among the 29 titles selected to be enshrined into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2021, bringing the institution’s total number of recordings to 1,142.
Other inductees include Journey‘s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” Bruce Springsteen‘s Greetings from Asbury Parky, N.J., Patti Smith‘s Horses, Billie Holiday‘s “Solitude,” A Tribe Called Quest‘s The Low End Theory and Village People‘s “Y.M.C.A.”
“We are proud to announce this year’s diverse roster of Grammy Hall of Fame inductees and to recognize recordings that have shaped our industry and inspires music makers of tomorrow,” said Harvey Mason Jr., Chair and Interim President/CEO of the Recording Academy.
He adds, “Each recording has had a significant impact on our culture, and it is an honor to add them to our distinguished catalog.”
