Seether’s Shaun Morgan unleashes his “disdain” for social media with number-one single, “Dangerous”

Courtesy of Fantasy RecordsSeether has notched another number-one hit on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs chart with “Dangerous,” the lead single from the band’s new album, Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum.

You don’t need to squint too hard to figure out what frontman Shaun Morgan is singing about on “Dangerous” — the line “You won’t be satisfied/Not unless you know your name is verified” is a dead give away. The song also reflects some of the dystopian fiction Morgan was reading during the writing and recording process for Si Vis Pacem, including the George Orwell classic 1984.

“It’s fairly eye-opening to see the parallels that can be drawn right now,” Morgan tells ABC Audio.

Of the many dystopian aspects of the year 2020, Morgan targets social media specifically with “Dangerous.”

“I have the largest disdain for any kind of platform that seems to exist purely to stick a needle in the side of society and sort of jiggle it around and see how much blood you can let without killing the organism,” Morgan explains. “It’s in some ways an atrocity that things like this exist and that we’ve embraced it with such enthusiasm.”

Morgan himself doesn’t use social media, as he says he feels “lost” watching how much weight it carries within society.

“I’m glad I’m not part of the maelstrom,” he says. “I’m glad to be sitting on the outside looking in.”
