Credit: Brian CoxWhen My Chemical Romance first announced their reunion tour, rumors flew that their past road mates The Used would be opening. However, Used bassist Jeph Howard tells ABC Audio that he “honestly [doesn’t] know” whether that’s happening, though he’s not counting anything out.
“We’ve been talking to them for years about touring again with them,” Howard says.
“I think at some point they will [bring The Used on tour], but as of right now they really don’t need us,” he adds. “I don’t mean that arrogant, at all. I’m just saying they got their own thing going, they’re massive.”
The Used and MCR shared the road together back in 2005. That same year, they recorded a joint cover of Queen and David Bowie‘s “Under Pressure.”
“The double tour would be rad for all of our fans that wanna see that again or jump back to [2005],” Howard says. “It would be awesome.”
Of course, any planning regarding live shows is all up in the air due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced My Chem to postpone their reunion tour to 2021. When concerts do come back, though, Howard is confident that MCUsed will return to the road in some form.
“I can’t guess when that’s gonna happen, but that’s what I’m seeing: it will happen at some point,” Howard says. “Maybe not a massive full tour, maybe [one-off] shows, I don’t know yet.”
“If we can ever tour again,” he quips.
