Live NationTommy Lee is already making his post-pandemic plans, and they don’t involve going out to eat.
“F*** the restaurants!” the Mötley Crüe drummer exclaims to ABC Audio. “I wanna be onstage at a stadium when it’s cool for everybody to be together again, and lose their minds. That, I gotta see.”
Of course, being onstage in a stadium was what Lee and his Crüe band mates were supposed to be doing all summer on the aptly named Stadium Tour, which was scheduled to kick off Thursday night in Jacksonville before getting postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19.
As Lee explains, getting a chance to headline a stadium tour was a major factor in convincing Mötley to return to the road. If you’ll recall, the band swore to never hit the road together again after one “final” show on New Year’s Eve 2015, and even signed a document legally preventing them from doing so.
“Yes, we’ve played stadiums before, festivals here and there and in Europe and where have you, but [we’ve] never [done] our own stadium tour,” Lee says. “And all of us were, like, ‘Oh my god! Dude, that’s the one thing we have never done. Yes! Let’s go do this!'”
“And that’s coming from four guys who were, like, ‘Nope, we’re done!'” he adds.
Naturally, Lee feels “bummed out” about the tour getting pushed to next year, but overall, he’s remaining upbeat.
“For it all to get pushed back a year, that’s super frustrating for everybody, but it’s gonna happen,” he says. “That’s the cool thing. It’s just gonna be a minute.”
Meanwhile, Lee’s gearing up to release a new solo album, Andro, on October 16.
