Courtesy RoadrunnerMegadeth, Lamb of God, Trivium and In Flames were scheduled to launch their North American tour, dubbed the Metal Tour of the Year, on Friday, but the outing’s been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Being unable to see such a stacked bill in person is surely disappointing for many a metalhead, including Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto.
“I feel like to be even on the bill with these bands sort of gives us some validation,” Gregoletto tells ABC Audio. “[It] definitely feels good to be a part of it and be asked to be next to legends like Megadeth, to be with our peer bands.”
Trivium had planned to support their new album, What the Dead Men Say, which was released in April, on the tour. While the record won’t be so fresh when they eventually do hit the road, Gregoletto feels the delay will give fans time to further explore it.
“I’m interested to see what songs people really gravitate towards, what they wanna hear,” he says.
Production-wise, Trivium is planning for the tour, whenever it does happen, to be the band’s “coolest live experiences yet.”
“Something that we can not only take out with this amphitheater, arena tour, but that we can scale into big venues, big clubs when we go back out and headline at some point,” Gregoletto teases.
The summer leg of the Metal Tour of the Year has been rescheduled for 2021, while the status of the fall leg, set to kick off this October, has yet to be announced. Whatever happens, Gregoletto feels that the power of the lineup is too strong to deny forever.
“I feel like with just announcing that bill, we can’t take it away from people,” he says. “We’ll have to do it at some point.”
