Academy of Country MusicAfter winning his first CMA Award last year, Trent Reznor is now up for another country music prize.
The Nine Inch Nails frontman and his band mate, Atticus Ross, are nominated for the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards. They’ll compete in the Music Event of the Year category, thanks to their contribution to “Old Town Road,” the viral Lil Nas X hit featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.
As you likely already know by now, “Old Town Road” samples the 2008 NIN song “34 Ghost IV,” thus making Reznor and Ross co-writers and co-producers on the track. That producer credit is what makes them eligible for the ACM.
The 2020 ACM Awards air Sunday, April 5 on CBS.
Reznor and Ross were previously recognized at the 2019 CMAs, or the Country Music Association Awards, when “Old Town Road” won the similarly titled Musical Event of the Year award.
“Old Town Road” ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-breaking 19 weeks. The track gave Reznor his first number-one Hot 100 hit.
